Leadership Terms End June 2023
BURLINGAME — CTA President E. Toby Boyd, a kindergarten teacher, was elected to another two-year term as president of the 310,000-member California Teachers Association during the quarterly meeting of the State Council of Education held virtually today. CTA Vice President David Goldberg and Secretary-Treasurer Leslie Littman were also re-elected to two-year terms.
Boyd, 62, of Sacramento, draws on 26 years in education and served as Mathematic, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) advisor and elementary coordinator for Elk Grove Unified School District, and also served as the liaison between the school district and the universities involved with the program.
Goldberg, 49, has been an educator for more than 20 years spending most of his career as a bilingual teacher at Murchison Elementary in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Littman, 52, of Santa Clarita in Los Angeles County, has taught AP US History, Economics and Government at Hart High School in the William S. Hart Union High School District for 25 years.
“Speaking on behalf of David and Leslie, we are humbled and honored to continue to serve California’s 310,000 dedicated and hard-working educators, who are doing extraordinary work during these uncertain times,” Boyd said. “We will continue to support students, their families and educators through this pandemic, while advocating for safe teaching and learning conditions. We hear the concerns of parents, students, and fellow educators every day and are deeply committed to advocating for a strong public health infrastructure, and layered prevention measures within schools that are effectively maintained and enforced. Combined with a deliberate vaccine roll out for all school employees, we look forward to working with parents, local school districts and communities to safely open our schools for in-person instruction. The pandemic is not going to interfere with CTA’s long-standing mission to proudly advocate for a free and equitable public education for all students and the future they deserve.”
The CTA State Council of Education is comprised of 700 democratically elected educators from across the state and is the union’s top governing body. The three leaders’ terms end June 25, 2023.
