WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration with jurisdiction over federal elections, released the following statement after the Supreme Court’s ruling rejected the Trump administration’s efforts to implement mail voting restrictions ahead of the November elections:
“This unconstitutional attack on mail voting should never have happened, but today’s ruling is a major victory in our fight to defend our right to vote and protect state elections from political interference. It preserves vote-by-mail as an important option for voters, including millions of Californians, as we head into the 2026 midterm elections. I have no doubt that Trump and his administration will continue in their efforts to interfere with our elections, but we will remain vigilant.”
