About The Home of Neighborly Service

Founded in 1922, The Home of Neighborly Service has been a pillar of support in San Bernardino for more than a century. From its historic 100 year old building, HNS has provided food, resources, and vital assistance to families and individuals across the city. Despite recent challenges, HNS remains committed to its mission: helping the people of San Bernardino and preserving its historic landmark for future generations. Unfortunately, due to the economic down turn being faced in San Bernardino the HNS began to scheduled a closure which faced 100’s of families and children no longer able to receive much needed longer-term services they have received for years. However, prior to the final closure date HNS met with Arrowhead Head United Way and the process began towards the new future of the “Home Having A New Home.”

Arrowhead United Way has served San Bernardino County for over 100 years, advancing its mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. AUW provides direct services including food distribution, youth leadership programs, veteran engagement initiatives, and emergency assistance, while partnering with local organizations to strengthen community impact.

A New Chapter of Collaboration

Beginning this month, AUW and HNS will collaborate to distribute weekly food and inkind services during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM), with special events scheduled throughout the year.

“This partnership honors a century of compassion and community,” said Dr. Gwen Dowdy Rodgers, President/CEO, Arrowhead United Way]. “By welcoming The Home of Neighborly Service into our facility, we’re ensuring that its mission continues to thrive and reach even more families.”

HNS leadership added, “Our new home at Arrowhead United Way allows us to grow and serve with renewed strength,” said Vickie Lee, Board Chair, Home of Neighborly Service. “Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected San Bernardino.”
