Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization joins national call for Congress, presidential cabinet, and Pentagon to prevent genocidal attack on Iran
(SANTA CLARA, CA, 4/7/2026) — The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today joined a national CAIR condemnation of President Trump’s “unhinged, racist, and genocidal” rhetoric after he posted a message online threatening that a “whole civilization will die tonight” and referred to Iranians as “animals” in response to a reporter’s question.
The organization urged members of Congress to reconvene and vote to end the war, called on cabinet officials to intervene, and urged military leaders to uphold their oath to the U.S. Constitution and refuse any unlawful orders targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.
In its statement, CAIR said:
“Declaring the Iranian people ‘animals’ and threatening to destroy their whole civilization is the sort of unhinged rhetoric we would expect from a racist, genocidal tyrant, not the President of the United States.
“Nothing in U.S. law, military law or international law would authorize the President to attempt to destroy another civilization by rendering their nation uninhabitable through indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure.
“President Trump must be prevented from committing a genocidal crime that would live in infamy, whether by Congress reconvening and voting to stop the war, the cabinet invoking the 25th Amendment, or military leaders refusing unlawful orders to exterminate civilians. Refusing to take any action in the face of this open threat to commit genocide is complicity.”
CAIR San Francisco Bay Area (CAIR-SFBA) Executive Director Zahra Billoo added:
“This is not just reckless rhetoric. It is the language of dehumanization that precedes mass atrocities: the killing of thousands of civilians, the destruction of homes, hospitals, and essential infrastructure, and the displacement of entire populations. Public officials at every level should be unequivocal in rejecting calls for collective destruction and the anti-Iranian, anti-Muslim hatred driving them.”
CAIR-SFBA is an office of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
