Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino Tackles Holiday Hunger Through 15K lbs of Turkey Distribution throughout the Inland Empire
(Riverside, CA – November 15, 2021) – A combination of inflated food prices and an expected seasonal demand made the 2021 holiday season unlike any other for food banks throughout the Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In its 41st year of donating food for the holidays, Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino (FARSB) will tackle holiday hunger as the nonprofit prepares for a surge in demand and price.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture determined that food-at-home prices are expected to increase between 2.5 and 3.5 percent, making meals expensive this season. “We are anticipating a higher need for holiday meals. With prices skyrocketing, this has greatly affected families who are finding themselves unable to afford holiday meals, as well as those who already struggle to afford a meal. In an effort to assist struggling families, we will be providing over 1,400 turkeys throughout the community,” stated FARSB CEO, Stephanie Otero.
As part of these efforts, FARSB is prepared to distribute 400 turkeys and fixings to pre-registered guests during their Thanksgiving Drive Thru event on November 19th 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at their distribution center located at 2950-B Jefferson St, Riverside, CA 92504. Families experiencing food insecurity can reserve their spot by visiting www.FeedingIE.org/turkey.
Over 15,000 pounds of turkey is projected to be distributed to families in need of a holiday meal this November.
Volunteers and donations are encouraged during this seasonal time. Monetary donations can specifically make a difference as funds can be utilized to tackle the most urgent and pressing needs. Holiday meal distributions will be available throughout the Inland Empire, to find a local food bank or to donate visit www.feedingIE.org.
