“You Stiff Necked People, Uncircumcised in Heart and Ears…”

You always resist the Holy Spirit, as your Fathers did, so do you. Therefore, you will fall under the same judgment. [Acts 7:51-53]. As the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so your root will be as rottenness, and your blossom will ascend like dust; because you have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts and despised the Word of the Holy One of Israel. [Isaiah 5:24].

So, they suffered unnecessarily. He gave them their request, but leanness into their soul. [Psalm 106:13-15].

Listen, God is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and forgives iniquity and transgression and sin. [Exodus 34:6–7]. He is not eager to punish. He is eager to forgive and move on with repentant and humble people. He wants us to be warned that there is an end to His patience. There is a resistance to the Holy Spirit that goes so long and so far. [Romans 1:24, 26, 28, 43]. Let us reason together and understand this thing. Though the Lord remains faithful, He also maintains justice, and there are consequences to rejecting His authority.

Again, and again in the Bible we see the astonishing patience of God toward rebellious mankind. Before the great Flood, God saw the horrible wickedness of the human race. Yet God held back His judgment for 120 years – so Noah, “a preacher of righteousness,” could warn them. [2 Peter 2:5]. He sent the prophet Ezekiel to preach to them, “Thus saith the Lord God…” [Ezekiel 2:4]. And God still sends people to warn “to flee from the wrath to come.” [Matthew 3:7].

But the whole human race has gone astray, rebelling and revolting against God! For there are none that doeth good, no, not one: “They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable [Romans 3:12]. As it is written, “There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes” [Romans 3:9-18].

I want you to know that God warned Adam and Eve that on the day they rejected Him they would “surely die.” [Genesis 2:17].  Adam, who had been created to live and fellowship with God, was cursed with a completely carnal existence. What God had intended to go from dust to glory now was to go from dust to dust. The terrible pattern of rejecting God continues, yet God desired to save His people. Repent before it’s too late!

Whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, yet shall they know that there hath been a prophet among them.” [Ezekiel 2:3-5].
