SBCUSD Assistant Superintendent Named CALSA Administrator Of The Year

The California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) named San Bernardino City Unified School District’s (SBCUSD’s) Dr. Rachel Monárrez as the Central Office Administrator of the Year for the state for her distinguished leadership and excellence in advocating on behalf of Latina/Latino/Latinx children.

Dr. Monárrez is the assistant superintendent of Continuous Improvement, which is focused on ensuring access and services to all students so that they can thrive academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. She joined SBCUSD in August 2016 as the assistant superintendent of Student Services. Since then, Dr. Monárrez has worked closely with parent advisory groups and is currently focused on engaging families in decisions that impact students.

“It gives me great pleasure to work towards improving this District to create positive outcomes for our students,” Dr. Monárrez said.

Prior to joining SBCUSD, Dr. Monárrez earned National Board Certification, one of the highest and most rigorous certifications a teacher can earn. She also served as principal of two schools, was the director of English Learner Programs and Special Education, and was an assistant superintendent of Educational Services. In 2018, Dr. Monárrez was promoted from SBCUSD assistant superintendent of Student Services to her current position as the head of the Continuous Improvement Division.

CALSA is a professional association that advocates for the continued development and placement of Latino/Latina/Latinx educational leaders who are committed to a quality public education. The organization provides members with mentoring and professional assistance, among other support.
