LAS CRUCES – A woman caught driving a stolen vehicle early Saturday morning, allegedly told police she was pop singer Beyoncé Knowles.

Las Cruces police had to use a fingerprint scanner to properly identify her.

Surena Henry, 48, of the 1400 block of Alamo Street, is charged with one count of the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, a felony, one count of concealing identity, a petty misdemeanor, and resisting or obstructing an arrest.

At the time of her arrest, Henry had a municipal bench warrant issued for failing to appear.

The stolen vehicle was taken from a Las Cruces residence sometime between 10 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle’s owner told police he might have accidentally left his keys in the vehicle, or dropped them outside his house.

An officer spotted the vehicle Saturday morning and attempted to make a traffic stop, but Henry, the driver, ignored the orders, court documents state.

Eventually, Henry parked in front of her home and exited the vehicle.

When confronted, Henry allegedly would not give her real name to the officer.

Police report Henry told the officer she found the keys in the vehicle and decided to take it for a joy ride. She also allegedly told police that she didn’t stop driving when she saw the emergency lights because she didn’t feel like it.

Henry was arrested and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
