CAHP CREDIT UNION ESTABLISHES MEMORIAL FUND FOR FALLEN DEPUTY MARK STASYUK

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA — The CAHP Credit Union has established a memorial fund in honor of fallen Deputy Mark Stasyuk.  One hundred percent of all donations received will go directly to Deputy Stasyuk’s wife.  The CAHP Credit Union is covering all processing fees and administrative responsibilities.

On September 17, 2018, at approximately 1:44PM, a member of the Rancho Cordova Police Department, Deputy Mark Stasyuk, 27, gave his life in sacrifice for the safety of the community in which he served.

Deputy Stasyuk was one of two deputies who were first to arrive after receiving a 911 call regarding a disturbance at a local Pep Boys auto parts store off of Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova. There was no indication, based off the call, that the suspect was armed.

Upon arrival, the suspect engaged in gun fire with the deputies. During this encounter, both deputies were shot by the suspect. The suspect then fled on foot to an adjacent parking lot and was engaged by other deputies who arrived at the scene.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Deputy Stasyuk was pronounced dead. Deputy Julie Robertson, who was also shot in the arm, is in stable condition.

Deputy Stasyuk was a four-and-a-half-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department and was assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department as a patrol officer. He leaves behind a wife, mother, father, and sister. He was preceded in death by his older brother.

“We are deeply grieved by the tragic loss of Deputy Stasyuk,” said Brad Houle, CAHP Credit Union President. “Deputy Stasyuk selflessly gave his life to protect our community. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, peers and the community he gave his life to protect.
