Assemblyman Obernolte Recognizes Apple Valley Police Activities League as Nonprofit of the Year

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblyman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) recognized Apple Valley Police Activities League as the 2019 Nonprofit of the Year for the 33rd Assembly District.

The Apple Valley Police Activities League was founded in 2003 by the Apple Valley Police Department. The department wanted to create a program that would provide positive activities for youth to participate in and to help build a constructive relationship between law enforcement and young community members. The Police Activities League is run by deputies, business leaders, and dedicated volunteers who want to see local youth stay safe and prosper in our community.

Among their most important programs is S.H.O.C.K. This is a 10-week paramilitary-style juvenile intervention designed to help youth 12 through17 improve their behavior and get their lives back on track. Parents are also engaged with parenting training to help ensure their children’s success. The League also manages a youth center where kids are able to play games, take music lessons, receive tutoring, or just hang out. Additionally, the League is very proud of their boxing gym and physical fitness training, which is second to none.

“I can’t say enough about the value of these programs that work with at-risk youth to make sure they stay out of trouble and keep on the right track,” said Assemblyman Obernolte. “The Apple Valley Police Activities League is doing a great job working with these teenagers by providing a safe and positive environment for them. I commend our local police department for recognizing the importance of building relationships with these kids and taking the time to make sure they succeed.”
