San Bernardino County programs that celebrate art, promote mental health and improve the lives of children and families, are among 45 programs that won 2020 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo), including a Best in Category Award for the County Museum.
“I congratulate all of our award winners who worked hard this year to serve our residents and make this county a great place to live,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman. “Each year our County departments have distinguished themselves on the national stage and they continue to make us proud.”
The County Museum won a Best In Category Award in the Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation category for Old West Days: Broadening Myths and Legends to Reflect Authentic Histories. In this program, Museum visitors get to see what life was like in the county in the 1800s and learn about its diverse and extensive history.
The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, including its Environmental Health Services Division, won 9 awards, the most of any County department.
“I am incredibly proud of our Public Health staff who not only work tirelessly but creatively every day to improve health, wellness, safety and quality of life to move our county forward,” said Corwin Porter, interim director of Public Health. “All nine of these innovative programs that our Public Health staff have developed truly deserve to be recognized.”
Since 2010, San Bernardino County has won 381 Achievement Awards from NACo, an organization that honors innovative, effective county government programs that enhance services for residents.
Nationally, NACo Achievement Awards are given in 15 different categories that reflect the variety of services counties provide. San Bernardino County won awards in nine categories judged by NACo. This year, NACo reviewed 522 entries from counties in 30 states.
