ARMC Attains National Accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer

ARMC is now an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Center

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) recently announced that it has received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program (ACAD). Each CoC program is designated a specific category based on the type of facility, program structure, services provided, and the number of cases admitted each year.

The Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program designation means that, as a teaching institution, ARMC participates in postgraduate medical education in at least four program areas, including internal medicine and general surgery, and handles more than 500 cancer cases each year.

“Becoming an academic comprehensive cancer center is a tremendous milestone for ARMC and a testament to the expertise and passion of our clinical teams,” said ARMC Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Goldfrach, FACHE. “San Bernardino County deserves exceptional cancer care close to home, and the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer recognition confirms that we are delivering on that promise. We remain committed to continually strengthening our programs, enhancing patient outcomes, and upholding the highest standards of surgical and cancer care.”

CoC accreditation is granted to institutions committed to providing high-quality cancer care by demonstrating compliance with the CoC standards. Each cancer program must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with the CoC standards. To maintain accreditation, cancer programs must undergo a site visit every three years. The CoC accreditation standards provide the framework for ensuring that all patients receive a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and supportive services, either on-site or by referral, including community-based resources. The ACS CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer by setting and raising standards.

As a CoC-accredited institution, ARMC also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies an institution’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step. The Surgical Quality Partner designation lets patients know that ARMC is dedicated to quality and relentless self-improvement, and that it has been verified or accredited by the ACS. Patients can trust that the care they receive at Surgical Quality Partner hospitals adheres to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality.

“ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience, and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, ARMC has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, rigorously evaluating that care, and dedicating itself to continuous self-improvement,” said ACS Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS. Learn more about the CoC Accreditation Program.
