BSCC In-Custody Death Review Division Listening Session – March 2, 2026

Greetings,

The BSCC In-Custody Death Review Division (ICDR) invites community members to participate in an upcoming listening session to learn more about the Division’s work and to share feedback, perspectives, and experiences with ICDR leadership and special guest, BSCC Board Member Dr. Gena Castro-Rodriguez.

Dr. Castro-Rodriguez was appointed to the BSCC Board by Governor Newsom in 2025 to serve as the new licensed mental or behavioral health care provider seat on the Board.  Dr. Castro-Rodriguez is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, educator, and thought leader with over 30 years of experience in mental health and trauma‑informed care. She has held multiple leadership roles in victim services and trauma recovery and now serves as an Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco.

This listening session is organized in collaboration with community partners, including Saving Lives in Custody – California (SLIC-CA) North County Civil Liberties Coalition, and the Saving Lives in Custody Campaign, with support from regional civil liberties, racial justice, interfaith, and jail-oversight advocacy networks.

The session will be held virtually via Zoom and will be recorded. Details are listed below, and additional information will be available on the BSCC’s  ICDR Page.

Questions, comments, or feedback before, during, or after the listening session may be submitted to icdrpublic@bscc.ca.gov.

We encourage community members, impacted individuals, families, people who work in local detention facilities, and advocacy partners to attend and share their input.
