Jones encourages Pook to pursue his innovative ideas despite fear of failure or lack of recognition. And Jones should know. A pioneer in mobile refrigeration, he proved invaluable in World War II as his refrigerated automobiles provided transfer of both food and blood. He also created a snowmobile-like machine to assist doctors’ home visits in wintry conditions. And yet, Jones’ honors largely came posthumously including the National Medal of Technology, awarded by President George H.W. Bush in 1991, making him the first African-American to receive the award.
With a humorous glossary written by Boogee, new historical figures in each story, and underlying STEM lessons, The Adventures of Pook and Boogee offers educational literature to audiences ages 7-10. The second book in the series will feature resourceful war hero, Betsy Hagar.
